FAQs

Our campers feel like they are part of the Ramaquois family. Arthur and Natalie are always available to answer questions and attend to every detail. Our main goal is to provide Ramaquois campers with a healthy, happy and rewarding summer experience. At Ramaquois, we are dedicated to expanding each child’s horizons and enriching his or her self esteem.

WHO ARE THE DIRECTORS

From 1922 through 1969 Camp Ramaquois was an outstanding resident camp. For more than 40 years, Owners/Directors, Arthur and Natalie Kessler, along with many professional administrators, have offered our campers the ultimate day camp experience. Arthur Kessler, Owner/Director, has been the vice-president of the American Camping Association and held a position on the Executive Board. He is one of the founders of the Rockland/Westchester Day Camp Association. Frequently, Arthur is called upon to lecture at professional conferences. Natalie Kessler, a New York State Certified Teacher, devoted 24 years to teaching children of all ages. Natalie directs and supervises the Ramaquois Adventure Trip Program. She is a member of the Rockland/Westchester County Day Camp Association, the New Jersey Day Camp Association and the American Camp Association.  Arthur and Natalie Kessler were awarded the prestigious “Legends of Camping” award by the American Camp Association in 2005.

WHERE IS RAMAQUOIS LOCATED?

Camp Ramaquois is situated in Pomona, New York (Rockland County) and is tucked into the foothills of the Ramapo Mountains. Tall trees, rolling hills, babbling brooks and mountain ranges surround our magnificent 44 acres and our 5 acre crystalline spring fed lake. The camp is 30 minutes from the George Washington Bridge via the scenic Palisades Parkway and 15 minutes from the Tappan Zee Bridge.

WHAT ARE THE CAMPERS’ AGES?

Ramaquois campers are divided into 3 separate camps, each with its own staff and separate facilities on our 44-acre site.

Junior Camp (Champs): Pre-K – 3-4 year olds (First start program)
Kindergarten – 5 year olds
1st graders – 6 year olds
Middle/Upper Girls’ Camp (Spirit): 7-15 year olds
(includes entering 10th graders)
Middle/Upper Boys’ Camp (Pride): 7-15 year olds
(includes entering 10th graders)

Each group is assigned an individual group cabin. Each cabin has ample bathrooms, sinks and cubbies for campers’ clothing and gear. Bunks and bathrooms are cleaned multiple times each day.

FROM WHERE DOES RAMAQUOIS PROVIDE TRANSPORTATION?

Ramaquois provides transportation to and from Rockland, Bergen, Westchester and Manhattan. Many of our families come from other states and countries to stay in this area for the summer. We have had campers come from Chicago, Florida, California, Virginia, South Korea, England, Bahamas, China, Japan, Hong Kong, Brazil, Italy, France, Spain, Israel, Mexico, Venezuela and many more locations! We welcome all of them with open arms.

HOW WILL MY CHILD GET TO CAMP?

Campers, who reside in Rockland, Bergen, Manhattan, Riverdale and Westchester, are provided with round-trip door-to-door transportation to camp. All of our buses are late-model, air conditioned school buses and mini vans equipped with 2-way radios, seat belts and cell phones.  All campers under 4 years or 40 pounds are provided with safety harnesses.

In addition, all vehicles have one or two bus counselors who care for and interact with the children.

Our most important concern is the safety and well being of your child.

WHAT ARE THE CAMPER-COUNSELOR RATIOS?

Ramaquois age groups are kept small to offer our campers individualized attention. The Junior Camp is given the highest priority in supervision, as there is one counselor for every 4 or 5 campers. There are three counselors per group for campers up to the age of fourteen, and at least two counselors per group for our CAPs (15 year old campers).
